About QuirePDF
QuirePDF is a set of 36 free tools for working with PDF files. A quire is a gathering of folded sheets, the unit a bookbinder works in, which felt like the right name for something whose whole job is moving pages around.
The idea is straightforward. Most PDF tasks are small and occasional: get this under the email limit, turn these photos into one file, pull page seven out of a contract. Nobody wants to install software, create an account or hit a two-files-a-day limit for that. So every tool here runs in a browser, works immediately, and adds nothing to what you download.
How it works
The tools run entirely inside your web browser, using open-source libraries such as pdf-lib, PDF.js, JSZip, docx and PptxGenJS. When you pick a file, it is read by your own device, processed by code that runs on your own device, and handed back to you as a download. There is no processing server in the middle, and no conversion service that would see your documents.
What happens to your files
Nothing — because they never leave your device. Files are not uploaded, stored, backed up, read or passed to anyone. Close the tab and every trace of the job is gone. The privacy policy sets out the detail.
That is a real advantage for sensitive documents, but it comes with an honest trade-off: the work is done by your browser, so very large files are limited by your device's memory, and a conversion can only be as good as the open-source engine that does it. The limits of each tool are written on its page.
How this is paid for
Advertising, placed around the content rather than inside the tools. Ads never sit where a download button would be, never disguise themselves as controls, and never interrupt a job that is running. If a placement is ever confusing enough that someone clicks it by mistake, it is in the wrong place and we will move it.
What we do not do
- Ask for an account, an email address or a card
- Add watermarks, footers or trial banners
- Cap how many files you can process
- Upload, sell or share your files, or the data in them
- Claim a conversion works when it does not — the limits are written on each tool page
